Nathan Christ is a director from Austin, Texas, whose documentary Echotone focuses on Austin’s music scene during a turbulent year, all culminating at South by Southwest 2009. The film has already been screened in San Francisco, and will be released to mass audiences in the fall. I sat down with Nathan in East Austin to discuss his path to film, the documentary itself, and the future of music in Austin.

SXSW 2010

We here at the blog (just like those there at most blogs) have scoured the South by Southwest 2010 lineups, and tried to pick out the must-see acts for you wonderful people. I have a tendency to be wordy when I’m trying to describe my favorite music, but I took a different approach here – below, you get the names of the suggested musicians, a video with a song that best represents the band’s or artist’s sound, and a list of days, venues and times you can catch these creative folks. We’re a little slow on the draw with this one, but happening RIGHT NOW (doors opened at 8pm, first band goes on in 10 minutes) is a benefit for the fabulous, student-run radio station KVRX. It’s only $7, plus our favorites Royal Forest and Oh No Oh My are performing. Great way to spend a Friday!
