Austin Writes Music was created with three major goals in mind.
First, it was created to showcase the writing of music journalists based in Austin, Texas. There are already multiple publications where local music writers can contribute. But when those publications become too full for a piece, that piece can fall through the cracks, read only by the writer’s friends and family on their own personal music blog. In AWM, we now have a collective space to share the pieces we care very much about, and hope for more people to read.
Second, in gaining a larger audience, AWM was created in the hopes that with more content-power, Austin music writers would have a better chance at accessing bigger musical acts as they roll through our beloved musically-renowned town.
Why is better access important? It relates to the third and, possibly, most important goal of the site. Music writers in Austin tend to love our fabulous local arts scene, and for good reason. We’ve got incredibly talented musicians bred in our own neighborhoods, and we want them to get as much exposure as they rightly deserve. If this site can feature interviews with, reviews of and multimedia pieces on nationally acclaimed artists, we hope to gain readers’ trust (that’s you!), so that you will believe us when we tell you, Austin musicians rock.
Ultimately, it’s all about supporting and enjoying one another’s creative and artistic work. So read on, rock on and enjoy!
